//Please post all IC RP in here related to politics, crime, bandits, general intrigue, and economics that does not have to directly do with relief and recovery from the undead in the north in 1351. Even if such RP is many miles from the geographic Sword Coast, please still put it in here to avoid needing more threads.//

Rumors, whispers really begin to make there way around Baldur's Gate and the surrounding lands.

Candlekeep is being targeted by someone or some group. Details are vague and no one seems to have more information, or know where the rumors are coming from.

Corm Orpian-Darkhold Cooperation

Rumors spread that before the undead General of Larloch withdrew back to Warlock's Crypt in the Year of the Dragon that Corm Orp was attacked by ten or so undead teleport raiders seemingly from his army. It is also said that Zhentarim agents of Darkhold and a company of Stormwatch soldiers of the Darkhold mountain fortress successfully aided the militia of Corm Orp in defending the village against the undead raiders, leaving enough of an impression with the leaders of Corm Orp to apparently agree with the leaders of Darkhold to cooperation in patrolling the wilds around Corm Orp and Darkhold in exchange for Corm Orpian crops. Some may now see a camp of Zhentarim Outrider cavalry setup nearby Corm Orp to facilitate the Zhentarim patrols of the area, dividing up routes between Corm Orpian militia riders and the Zhentariam Outriders as is appropriate. It is said that the arrangement is temporary, but could become a permanent cooperation of forces agreement if there is no material issue.

It was allegedly made clear to the Zhentarim during negotiations that the leaders of Corm Orp still deeply mistrust the intentions of Darkhold and that there would be no occupation or limitations upon the village's freedom, only mutual cooperation against local threats to civilization outside of the village and its farmlands and no hassling of reasonable, non-disturbing, and non-hostile Zhentarim agent and officer visits to the village. It is said that one of the ruling council members of Corm Orp was particularly disgusted at this new arrangement, even if it would seem to benefit the village's security interests, but that he was in the end grudgingly persuaded by other council members, who also are said to profoundly dislike the Zhentarim's intentions, to do so to facilitate local peace and understanding with Darkhold, the strongest local military power.

Amn

Whispers spread that the Amnian-Northern Trade Initiative syndicate has finished briefly exploring three potential undeveloped trade routes from Amn to northern trade markets around the Sea of Fallen Stars. What developments result from this remain to be seen.

Sometime during Nightal, 1351 DR
The Year of the Crown

As the sounds of metal upon metal spread through the courtyard, a lone figure appeared on the balcony overseeing the Zhentilar training grounds. His one-eyed gaze swept the courtyard briefly, taking note of the men and women committed to their regular routine. Finally a sharp whistle broke the clamour, majority of the eyes focusing upwards to the balcony.

"Those of you assigned to The Network, pick up your blunt weaponry from the smith. The rest of you, clear out and return to your regular duties."

The man proceeded to descend the side stairs, meeting the curious glances of those remaining in the courtyard. The first Zhentilar who showed a hint of disobedience ended up with a bloody lip, at that moment the others in his vicinity felt the despair that is brought upon those who cross the one-eyed man.

For the remainder of the day the group trained extensively with their blunt weaponry, the one-eyed man instructing them in the most effective techniques and ways to combat undead. Over the course of the next several days the same scene could be witnessed at the training grounds. Finally, the exhausted Zhentilar were granted a single day of rest.

DM Dialectic wrote:
*The training of some of the Stormwatch preparing for the Corm Orp operation seems to have paid off, no one fell out of rank or disobeyed an order. Obedience from the training regiments appears to have been fruitful. Some gossip whether the Outriders will trained as harshly as their cavalry units cycle into patrolling around Corm Orp.*

****

In the weeks following the defeat of undead at Corm Orp, Darkhold's outriders could be seen extending their patrols all the way to the small hamlet, though they would keep their distance from Corm Orp's own patrols for the most part. From time to time they would be accompanied by a one-eyed man riding an Amphailan black charger. His full plate and lack of military markings would set him apart from the rest of the outriders. Unlike the outriders, he would occasionally stop by the hamlet and pass through the gates, rejoining the patrol after some time.

*on a patrol of the sword coast Road South of baldurs Gate and north of The Friendly Arms Inn Terri Lalani of Phoenix Company would come across a blood trail, following the trail would lead her to the body of an elf girl who had been dragged to the shrine of Silvanus. After giving last rites she would search the body and the surrounding area for clues as to who she might be or who might have commited this murder and defilement of a shrine. finding a note close by she would frown some*

Amn

Rumors say that an Amnian trade syndicate called the Amnian Northern Trade Initiative has recently completed scouting out of some new possible routes of trade between Amn and the north. The syndicate is said to be lead by Lady Narasida Zakine, an Amnian citizen and businesswoman, and also is said to involve the mercenary company commonly known as "The Ravens". Gossip says that the Ravens hired some additional mercenaries in the Greenfields to assist the Ravens with its efforts on behalf of the Amnian Northern Trade Initiative, but it remains to be seen whether this is true or not.

There is gossip in the Greenfields between Berdusk and Nashkel that the syndicate recently made an expedition to the settlement of Greenest in the Greenfields. Some of its members were seen allegedly meeting with Dharva Scatterheart, the local hin leader of Greenest. Greenest is a village that is best known regionally for being raided by Drow just a few years ago and is still said to be in the process of recovery.

Subject: A body at the shrine

The talk of the body found dragged to the shrine of Silvanus had folk around the Tradeway confused. Was it an elf, was it a human? Which maiden was slain? Who did the deed?

She could have been a traveler, she could have been a bandit. What is clear though in search of the truth, that she is very dead. An arrow through the back, a human woman was slain.

A parchment of weathered vellum showing age, yet marked in newly inked verse, is blown hither and thither, at times, attaching itself to the leg or arm of a person, to be glimpsed and pondered for the briefest of moments sufficient enough to be absorbed, then by power or chance, flutters out of the hands to further travel, a destination unknown.

Corm Orpian-Darkhold Cooperation

Rumors say that patrols of Zhentarim Outrider cavalry continue in the areas nearby Corm Orp. A Zhentarim Outrider camp it can be confirmed by any local traveler has indeed been constructed in the vicinity complete with watch tower waving the flag and seal of the Zhentarim.

It is not clear in gossip if the arrangement has yet been established as permanent or not or if negotiations between Corm Orp and Darkhold on a more long-term relationship as such have yet occurred.

Rumour quickly spreads forth along the Trade Way that the Flaming Fist lead a successful ambush upon the Toecutter gang that had been meanacing the road between the Friendly Arm Inn and Wyrm's Crossing. A no-nonsense officer and a band of four other adventurers laid a trap for the gang and killed at least 13 of them and captured one prisoner. Many of the refugees and merchants traversing the road would take comfort at the swift response of the Fist to this threat to trade and safe passage upon the Coast Way.

Rumour quickly spreads that Lieutenant Armstrong of the Flaming Fist returned successful from his mission to emancipate the abducted refugees, with nine in total being rescued. It is said that this act of gallantry has slated him for promotion, and the adventurers who accompanied him, Medals of Valour.

A separate rumour begins to circulate, sourced primarily from the rescued refugees, about the Toecutter Gang working for drow slavers. They also insinuate that the Gang abandoned their stolen treasures in their haste to flee the wrath of the Flaming Fist. When asked why the Fist did not recover them, they say that Captain Armstrong said with the potential threat of drow coming to claim their slaves it was unwise to linger in the area, and that their safety was paramount over a few trinkets of gold or silver.

Two heavily guarded wagons escorted by a Flaming Fist company, a battle mage and several siege engineers was seen to be dispatched south along the Trade Way. They departed the road about a score miles north of the Friendly Arm Inn and headed for a location bordering the Forest of Sharp Teeth.

Several days later they returned north, the draft horses labouring under the strain of whatever it was they had recovered from wherever it was they had gone. The siege engineers were also covered with copious amounts of dust and grime.

A peasant-monk was busy bringing justice to the secret bandit hideout in the northern farmlands. The bandits decided to regroup and lay an ambush for him by the cave exit, which he stumbled into unawares and was promptly knocked unconscious. Dismayed by his distinct lack of possessions they left him for dead and fled.

Soon after a local member of the Order of the Radiant Heart happened by the hideout and found the unconscious man by the entrance. After transferring the divine blessing of his god by laying-on-of-hands, he asked the fellow what had happened. The two decided to pursue the bandits. They were in fact not far away, trying to salvage an old stash of loot. The bandits fled through the farmlands but became trapped between the officer guarding the path to the north and the lingering camp of Lord's Alliance soldiers. The bandits were just about to throw their arms down in surrender when the Radiant Heart squire came upon them and meted out immediate justice, executing all three of them immediately.

A Flaming Fist patrolman quickly came to survey the scene and, congratulating the Radiant Heart squire for his deeds, returned to the Fist Barracks to make a report. He mentioned in passing that it was about time the fragmented group started doing some good again for the populace of Baldur's Gate.

The Northern Tradeway

Rumor quickly begins to spread that the Black Orc Tribe has been on the move. Though the numbers are sketchy, it seems a significant presence of these vile, but powerful enemies to man have begun frequent raids along the Northern Tradeway, harassing caravans between Triel and Soubar.

Not long after, rumor may begin to spread of a fellowship of many, led by the well known knight Eldarian Al'maire, taking many of this nuisance to the blade and leaving many dead. The battle was hard fought, and harder won. But in the end, victory lay in the hands of the beleaguered troop of motley adventurers.

The troop remain together for a time gathering the remains of the most recently attacked caravan, guarded by many now dead gnomes. The troop split up, several remaining to guard the carriage that now held the dead for proper funeral rites, and the rest led by a masked figure to hunt down the remaining Black Orcs.

Later on, the pack can be seen worried and rejoining their comrades at the caravan once more. They seem to discuss plans to warn the surrounding towns, as not long afterwards, word reaches nearly immediately the towns of Triel, Soubar, and the elves of En Dharasha Evarae. The caravan of bodies, guarded heavily from any further harassment, can be seen being drawn back to the city of Baldur's Gate on the back of a massive earth elemental, whose shape is vaguely that of a elven female's body made of stone and moss.

Several of the adventurers can be seen still protecting the caravan in the Eastern Farmlands of Baldur's Gate, awaiting the arrival of Ilmateri priests to gather the dead. The solemn work is carried out, and the troop finally depart after a proclamation is made to return once more, and rain righteous indignation on the heads of the orc menace when the issue of numbers has been quelled by another fellowship of adventurers.

Arrival

Image

The telltale maroon sails of a Lantanna ship make their way into Baldur's Gate to much pomp and circumstance from the watching crowd. Not only does this mark the arrival of merchants but of a very rare visit from a Lantanna noble family, the Dippledops. With their arrival came the promise of work supplied from their tinkerers, their artificers, alchemists, tinkerers and inventors who have accompanied the noble family. Gondsman busily unloaded the ships as the family spoke to the crowd.

Image

They have taken up residence in the High House of Wonders and the Helm and Cloak. A public meeting is set for tomorrow within the Temple.
