In the shadier corners of Baldur's Gate beggars and low-lives speak of a potential way to make some money, if one can go to Roaringshore.

Its said that a mysterious coughing sickness is doing the rounds in the Harbour district. Warehouse workers are struggling through their shifts, and some fishermen have even stayed ashore while their ships have sailed. The harbour remains bustling though, with those who are not sick thankful for the extra work available.

Screams are heard from the Duskwater residence in the Palace District as the maids come to work one day. Quite quickly the Flaming Fist arrives on the scene in a large force with even a few battle casters. Soon after a flash of blue light can be seen outside the house. Out of the flash of light, materializes Lord Bernard Duskwater, with an expression of furious rage.

Four body bags are carried out of the house and the Fist leaves several guards outside. Lord Duskwater goes to the palace to speak with the Dukes. Later that day he issues an official statement hung on the various bulletin boards in the City:

Quote:
Citizens of Baldur's Gate.

This morning, I was informed of the worst tragedy imaginable: My wife, the Lady Helga Duskwater, has been murdered most brutally along with three of my trusted guards. The Flaming Fist suspected "robbery gone wrong" at first, but when I arrived and saw nothing was stolen I have come to a terrible conclusion: My wife was assassinated.

I cannot know if she was the intended target, or myself, but I promise that whoever is responsible will meet justice. I hope I can count on my fellow Baldurans for support and aid in this. I thus ask anyone who may have seen or heard anything to go to the Flaming Fist or me directly with this information.

Lord Bernard Duskwater

Over Heard at the Elfsong Tavern....conversation between to old friends

"The disease has gripped the dock, and effective closed down the Harbor District, as the Flaming Fist have taken up posts at all access points.

People still seem to be getting around the Fist, and now there are rumors of cases of the disease popping up in the Palace district and even here, in the East. We need to be extra careful.

They still trying to figure out how people are getting out.....I hear the Fist are getting ready to tighten down their hold on the Docks......."

The Flaming Fist guards at the watchposts bordering the Fields of the Dead redouble their efforts, after rumours of drow raiders present on the fields.

A man named Beldar Kraelson was said to be hung outside of the Flaming Fist keep in the Dock's District of Baldur's Gate, pleading guilty to worshiping the banned god Talos and resisting arrest and choosing the death penalty as punishment instead of exile and a fine.

Muggings and breaking and entering becomes more common in the Dock's District. Enraged citizens try to storm the Flaming Fist HQ after desperation sinks in, but are beaten back badly.

A ship thought to contain hidden supplies is attacked by the mob, who slaughters the crew then turns on each other for the goods. Adventurers intervene and it turns into a massacre, about 100 people died and all the goods are ruined, destroyed or tainted. The wooden planks are slick with blood. Trying to depose of the bodies, one adventurer sets the docks ablaze. The danger is averted by some quick thinking by other adventurers, as well as a Flaming Fist cleric putting the fires out. The whole incident has just made things worse.

Adventurers help to stop muggings, thefts and even volunteer to heal the sick and give people food. The mood is still foul. A street thug lair is assaulted by a huge adventuring party, temporarily halting the thug activities. A lone bandit stumbles outside of the hideout, the only survivor of the fierce struggle. The city is lucky to have people who volunteer their lives like that to save others.

Rumors being to spread through the Gate. The relief caravan from Elturel was hijacked, all the supplies were either taken or destroyed. The entire escort with the caravan was killed, and there is a rumor of only one bandit surviving. No one is sure where he is though as the group that tried to intercept the bandits took the man with them instead of turning him over to proper authorities.

Oddly enough though it can be heard that supplies are making it to those who are in need the most. No one is sure where the supplies are coming from or who is supplying them. All that is known is that one phase is repeated...many say it, but seems only a few know its true meaning. "It is time to replant the virtuous soil"

Gnoll raiders are blocking most of the trade passing by the Reaching woods. Their attacks are ferocious, leaving few alive, and even less bodies left to bury as many get eaten. Many start to shy away from these trading routes, with the result that even fewer supplies reach Baldur's Gate.

Rumours of the docks speak of half a dozen dwarves dragging four human sized bodies into a dark, backalley building two nights ago. A trail of blood was left from one of the sewer entries, but was quickly washed away by the rain.

Unrest at the docks

In the fallout of the receding plague, among the grumbling bellies and blanket-less shoulders fighting off the cold of the thawing winter, amid rising tension, something snaps. As dawn breaks rioting starts among the meager stalls of the market in the impoverished Docks District of Baldur's Gate. Amid the destruction of public property, are cries of hunger and chants denouncing the Duke's for allowing the district to slip into such a sorry state.

The Flaming Fist are quickly dispatched and set up barricades at the district exits, assuring nobles they will have the matter quelled shortly.

Two off-duty Flaming Fist soldiers is said to have been at the Blade and Stars earlier talking about some other Flaming Fist soldiers having found three known pickpockets and burglars stabbed to death in the Harbour District. They had seemed cheerful at this, as it meant less thieves to have to deal with.

The Day of the Spider Came

Breaking the monotony of just another day at the docks, slowly, screams started bellowing from the alleys of the Baldur's Gate Harbor. Soon, people were seen running through the streets... followed by several giant spiders, wrecking havoc upon the harbor.

Rather quickly, several local adventurers and the stouter and surlier harbor workers started to band together, slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning the creatures to death with whatever was available. The smaller and less stout, various cats, chamber maids, wenches, and other less capable, would fall prey to the creatures. After a few hours, the Flaming Fist are sent through the streets in force to clean out remaining spiders and secure the streets. The Flaming Fist compound remains closed to any visitors for the remainder of the day.

Rumors quickly spread regarding the sudden infestation of Giant Spiders. Ranging from a remnant of the plague, to demonic worship, to some dark relic tampered with by nobles, to a punishment from the gods, to the work of foreigners...

Following the discovery of some spider nests in the cities interiors, The Flaming Fist quickly issue a bounty to local adventurers (low level parties encouraged to partake, setup till server reset (should be good until around 0:00 server time) Post your screens and stories in Elfsong... RP fights with spiders if someone cleaned them ahead of you), to scour the city and destroy any remaining spider presence.

Whispers circulate the east district of Baldur's Gate. Another unexplained murder, it would seem. Some claim that the guilty party had already been found and taken away in irons, while a few others would murmur about hearing that a mysterious sedition group having been involved. Regardless of the truth of the matter, Flaming Fist patrols would be heavily increased throughout the district for the rest of the day.
