Daggers in the Dark

With the arrival of a caravan the eighth of Tarsakh (april) rumors begin to circulate of trouble in Zhentarim occupied Daggerdale. The caravan from the direction of Tilverton apparently caused a stir among the Zhentilar garrison of Darkhold. A meeting of the Black Cloaks was reportedly called, and the normally dour fortress was exceptionally lively with discussion on what might be going down.

Dragon sightning near Darkhold

Residence of nearby towns at the base of the sunset mountains would report sighting a massive black dragon around the peaks of Darkhold. Some even claim they was it swoop into the keep for a landing. Only those garrisoned within at the time would know what transpired at the keep that day.

Rumors start to spread in the north of a large mass moving from the rumored necropolis in the Troll Claws to the East. It is a slow moving mass, and reports state it is composed largely of slow moving mindless undead, zombies, skeletons... and large golems?

The slow moving hoard leaves pestilent effects upon the land it traverses. Scouts in the area may reports that the undead mass is slowlyheading directly for the small mountain town of Kheldivver.

Further missives and plans will be to no avail, as the mass has moved sufficiently close to where it will be upon the city before they will reach it.

///PM me sometime to run an event if u wish to intercept. Only those plans already set into motion at the time of this posting are valid. Otherwise all adventurers can do is show up there.

The Pestilent March, Pt 2: To Kheldivver

Several Adventurers teleported into Kheldivver as the shambling undead hoard approached. Towering above the pestilent clouds kicked up in their wake, large adamantine golems of exotic design.

The adventurers went out to defend the outer palisades as the undead army marched through the fields, spreading disease in their wake, and felling any brave farmer or militiaman who would engage them. The adventurers held their ground at the outer gates. Wave after wave of mindless undead crashed upon them, and the destructive golems plowed through. They held for a time, but eventually had to fall back to the inner courtyard of the small mountain town.

As they fell back from the endless assault, suddenly, the undead and golems stopped advancing. They... just... stood there, motionless and silent, save the occasional twitch of zombie tendon. Half in the city, half still outside the gates, the undead and construct hoard just stood there, and waited.

As the hours passed, several adventurers started to construct makeshift barricades and siege equipment from the materials to be found in the inner courtyard (trees and local housing). Meanwhile, the hoard just stood there...

An eerie silence fell upon the town as the residence huddled within their houses or the town hall, undead waiting patiently in the streets around them. The silence only broken by the occasional hammering of siege craft from the adventurers in the square, and the sounds of terrified mothers stifling the whimpering of their children.

After two days of awkward silence, as Kheldiver's residents huddle in their homes and go through their food reserves, and army of undead and exotic golems outside their homes... just... waiting.

The massive undead hoard bolstered by Golems suddenly starts to march... back the way they had come.... Adventurers preparing siege equipment in the town square would watch in confusion as they would see the hoard march back the way they came, why they came, still a mystery.

/////if a group in the town IC wishes to do something, we can RP this out in game.

There have been several disappearances throughout the Sword Coast. Some have even seen the shapes of people leaving the houses those that had disappeared. Perhaps the homeowners are sneaking away on vacation? Perhaps they are running from those they owe coin too?

Several bloated arachnids have been rumoured to be found from a wide-ranging amount of locations along the Sword Coast. These things spread disease and misery around them, and adventurers have been working hard at thinning their numbers.

Caravans from the Dales bring word of renewed attacks against the Zhentarim garrison in Daggerdale. After the initial scare they appear to be on the level of banditry and aren't an imminent threat to Zhentarim rule. It is whispered by Zhentilar escorts that Manshoon was seen in Daggerdale before or after the initial attack on Dagger Falls. No one appears to know where the rumor originated, or just when its supposed to have happened.

The Blackorc war bands - pale remnants of the once mighty hoard which had held much of the woods of Sharptooth and sacked the now desolate town of Triel - have begun migrating out of the hills and forests to which they had scattered throughout the north. Pushed out by fear as a darker presence has descended upon the reaching wood and cast its shadow among the whole of the northern Sword Coast.

Caravans and smaller settlements struggling to eek out a living in this harsh lawless land have seen an increase in blackorc raids over recent weeks, as desperate migrating war bands seek new resources and new dens.

A Zhentarim Sky mage returning from a patrol to Darkhold brings word of a Zhentilar caravan freshly departed from Daggerdale. The Caravan will arrive in a ten-day but there has been some kind of attack by the Harpers against a hidden Zhentilar garrison in Dagger Falls.

According to the Zhentilar escorts the entire garrison in the building was murdered in cold blood, including a Black Cloak and a Sternhelm officer. The Harper perpetrator hasn't been found but rumor is that he is a powerful mage who was disguised as a peasant, was about to be apprehended by vigilant Zhentilar, and that he used a mass-killing spell of some sort. The caravan departed quickly following these events as fire had started in the City and the traders had no wish to be delayed for another day.

The Sky mage refused to say anything more until he had rested, just having returned from an exhausting six day patrol in the cold north-eastern air flows. What had possessed the mage to perform such an extensive and long patrol was left unsaid, though apparantly some reward was due, for he was later seen making a large deposit on a personal account in the Keep's banking & counting establishment.

BlackOrc War bands have continued to coalesce around the lawless northern town of Soubar. Caravan movements have ceased due to the a substantial recent increase of attacks, and several roaming bandits in the area have retreated to the town due to the increased Blackorc presence.

In desperation, local leaders send missive to nearby centers of civilization calling for adventurers and aid against this mounting threat. Meanwhile, they struggle to organize the ragtag populous in attempts to prepare some sort of defenses, should the orcs organize and threaten the lawless tradeway town.

Travelers from a small farming community have began to trickle down to Baldur's Gate seeking refuge and safety. If questioned about their purpose, they merely tell how they are seeking protection from a massing horde of undead that have slowly moved closer and closer to their home.

Sometime after noon, once what seemed to be the last of the refugees have made their way into the city, a messenger donned in plate on a beautiful black steed hands the Fist guarding the gate an envelope before riding north once more.

the black orc hoard... or what malnourished stragglers remain of it... are decimated by the defenders of Soubar. The sky is red that day, as the ground is stained with black blood... A star falls

All eyes beneath the open sky look to the north, as the mysterious star falls. The earth shakes as it hits somewhere NorthEast of Soubar

An undead horde walked overran the village of Wayfork, and with the help of some brave souls, the villagers were saved. Travelers along the Tradeway going to Daggerford tell of the undead mass slowly moving south at a snail's pace. The villagers, with the help of the Ilmateri Temple, can be seen helping out on the farms and ships on the Gate.

"Animal life gatheres at the fringes of the forest. Spooked. Gnoll warbands wander freely, disrupting the tradeways, all while a menace is growing in the heart of the forest. The undead has awakened in yet another location along the Sword Coast"
