First Name: Maxwell
Last Name: (Clanless)

Appearance:
Race: Shield Dwarf
Age: 52, born in the winter of 1298
Height 5'6"
Weight: 180 lbs
Eyes: Dark Brown
Hair: Black, tangled
Facial Hair Style: A long beard that matches his hair in both tangles and color.

Personality Profile: He is a stark contrast to the typical dwarf. Some might even say closer to a gnome yet even then he doesn't quite fit the bill. He struggles to take anything seriously unless it is a responsibility regarding his dwarven heritage or his smith work. He has a soft spot for any half blood races and is convinced Halflings are amongst this number.
General Health: Excelent
Deity: Istishia
Initial Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Profession: Runecrafter, Diplomat, and Smith
Base Class & Proposed Development: Wizard, Arcane Scholar, Cleric
Habits/Hobbies: Studying dwarven lore, Smithwork, Enchantments, causing harmless mischief.
Languages: Common, Dwarf, Terran, Ignan, Aquan, Auran, Elf, Gnome
Weapon of Choice: Spells, specifically Enchantment and a Dwarven Waraxe.

Background: Born in Baldur's Gate in winter of 1298 Maxwell was always a bit of an outcast. His half dwarven half human heritage may have something to do with this as for the first twenty years of his life he was treated by the human run orphanage as if he was a human. This meant working a steady job in the smithy from the age of fourteen. He quickly excelled in such an environment surpassing his employers in both skill and speed.

He often found himself almost bored by the steady pace of his early life. While most dwarves desired the consistency Maxwell wanted more. He had learned to read by studying the blueprints found in the smithy and soon found himself scouring shops for books. As a young thirty year old he spent roughly half his time reading. It was around this time he discovered the Art.

A book containing arcane writings soon found its way to him and since he has never been without it. Adding and altering the pages of this specific book it has become his very own spell book. Through its pages he has learned much. Languages such as Ignan, Aquan, Terran, and Auran were found in detail within the pages as well as spells of varying powers. He spent years deciphering its pages at the Elfsong Tavern. Eavesdropping on adventurers as they spoke of their latest treasure and their greatest feat. This perhaps more then anything drove him to a life of adventuring. It was around this time he began learning Elvin. Many of the the long lived race would stick to their native tongue while in the human city and with his heightened intellect he managed to pick up on some of it. Though still only roughly understanding it he has been able to grasp much of its nuances in his travels.

In 1348 Maxwell finally set out on his own. During his early days he made friends with many others. Though some would fall other remain to this day. Amongst them a few are prominent; Lucy Heartfilia, Elaria, Valiant Blinncraft, Lotrik, and Revenark. He has also met many enemies.

In 1350 Max took up the religious calling of Istishia. Living in any dwarven city centers around water to some degree however it plays a larger role in a perpetually sober wizards life. Maxwell had always liked rain more then any other weather. He did not mind wading through water though he can swim little better then an iron golem and gets seasick easily. Since taking the mantle of clergy up he spreads the word of all elements but emphasizes water above all others. "Water cleans all wounds" he insists as he often unceremoniously dumps blessed water on the injuries of those he travels with.

His Feats are known by some -

Negative Energy Plane: He helped defeat Herbert North's creation on the Negative Energy Plane. While others were attacking with positive energy spells Maxwell hit hardest with his "Positive Reinforcement".

Transporting the Vault of the Dead: After defeating the Dracolich with help from a few of his close friends Maxwell attempted to Study the large Gem in the ceiling. He hypothesized it was the Phylactery of the Dragon and decided to destroy it. He flung a Hellball straight and true into the pinnacle of the gem. At first his attempt seemed to fail however upon exiting the entire vault "poofed". It was later learned it had reappeared in the Fields of the Dead.

One spell to defeat them all: In a training fight Kraak Helzak has pitted Maxwell and Cyrus against roughly a dozen experienced warriors. With a single level four spell Maxwell managed to defeat all but one of them. Grimm was the only one to survive the Confusion. Maxwell was defeated in the end however taking so many with a single low level spell has always remained a point of pride for him.

Goals: Maxwell wishes to master his Art and his Smithwork. Eventually attaining a clan name and a position of Power within Kraak Helzak.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Maxwell is Half Dwarven half Human. treat this as a heritage not a race. Similar to a Red wizard being Mulharandi or a barbarian being an Uthgardt. His deity is a significant leap from both his dwarven and human heritage. A test of his faith could be around any corner of any dungeon.

ON HALFDWARVES

Some players are very upset over my RPing a halfdwarf without it being on my character sheet. For this reason I will include some information on halfdwarves here as a reference for DM's and players alike.

DWARVES DEEP

Quote:
THE DOOM OF THE DWARVES
The tragic 'secret' of the dwarves is their low birthrate. Fear of clan extinction sometimes drives dwarves to raid human settlements for mates, or even to deal with slavers. The dwarves are usually in search of human women, because of the low dwarven birthrate is thought to be due to fertility among dwarven women.
The offspring between a human and a dwarf is always dwarven enough to pass for a true dwarf (although it may be a foot taller than other dwarves). Any offspring it may in turn have with a dwarven mate will be fully dwarven., reverting to usual dwarven height. The taking of human mates is "the secret salvation of the race" referred to by some dwarven elders.

HALFBLOODS
Humans, Gnomes, and Halflings are cross-fertile with Dwarves. Elminster says Elves and Dwarves can have issue as well. Common in Ardeep, Eaerlann, and Myth Drannor of old, this is unheard-of today.
Mates who respect dwarven customs and traditions are honored for their courage (in entering a strange society), loyalty (to the customs of the dwarves) and aid (in preserving the folk).
"Half-dwarves" are not a distinct race. Save for their height(a head taller than most dwarves) all offspring between dwarves and other races look and act (and are treated in the rules) as pure-blood dwarves. Dwarven halfbreeds always have the stocky build and hirsute appearance of purebloods.
If halfbloods mate with pureblood dwarves the offspring will be pureblood. If halfbloods mate with another halfblood or a nondwarf, the offspring will be a halfblood.

The following is a simple image to show roughly the height I view Maxwell as having.
